Endodontics
Endodontics relates to the science of diagnosing, preserving, maintaining and treating the dental pulp and periradicular tissue complex in the presence of both health and disease.

Root Canal Treatment
Is aimed to preserve the dental pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth) and the periradicular tissues (the tissue around the tooth root), and maintain the health of all or part of the dental pulp or remove diseased and infected pulp tissue to resolve infection and restore function.

Dental Trauma
Effective management begins with a thorough history and examination. Adequate diagnosis then subsequently informs the specific management protocols that are required, depending on the tooth involved (primary or permanent), the nature of each injury and its severity.

Cracked Tooth
The teeth with cracks have various symptoms depending on the status of the pulp/root canal system, from clinically normal, reversible or irreversible pulpitis to necrotic/pulpless root canal system. Therefore, the treatments for cracked teeth also should have various approaches depending on the status of the pulp/root canal system.

Retreatment
During endodontic retreatment, the root canals will be accessed again to remove the filling materials that were placed in the root canals during the previous root canal treatment. The endodontist then removes any infection, cleans and shapes the canals, and places new filling materials.

Periapical Surgery
Endodontic surgery can be used to locate small fractures or hidden canals previously undetected on X-rays during the initial treatment. Surgery may also be needed for a biopsy of non-healing periapical lesion, to remove foreign body reaction with extruded material, or to treat damaged root surfaces or the surrounding bone of the tooth.
Dr. Gus Jang
Dr. Gus Jang is the principal endodontist at WA Endodontics. He is an Australian board registered endodontic specialist. Gus obtained his Bachelor of Dental Science degree with Honours at the University of Queensland. He completed his specialist training and obtained the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontics at the University of Western Australia, under the supervision of Emeritus Professor Paul V Abbott AO.
Gus has a special interest in managing cracks in teeth with pulp and periapical diseases. During his postgraduate study, he researched on a comparison of the reliability and accuracy of transillumination and a dental operating microscope to detect cracks in teeth. His treatment approach focuses on the importance of diagnosis and investigation of the remaining tooth structure to identify the cause of the diseases in order to achieve better long-term prognosis.
Gus is involved in teaching Doctor of Dental Medicine students at the University of Western Australia. He is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in the Special Field of Endodontics, the Australian Society of Endodontology, the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontists, the American Association of Endodontists, the International Association of Dental Traumatology as well as the Australian Dental Association.
